Rotary Club of Burdwan Greater was Chartered on 20th May 1998 and it was presented by the then District Governor Late Kirti Ranjan Dey. Our Charter President was Late Rtn Sunil Mukherjee. Subsequent Presidents of our Clubs are: Late Rtn Dr Sisir Kr Panja, Partha Choudhury, Rtn Sanjoy Mondal, Rtn Dr Firdos Ahmed, Late Rtn Jayanta Majumdar, our present DG Rtn Sukhminder Singh, Rtn Rajat Baran Roy, Rtn Randhir Singh Bhutoria, present DES Rtn Ajit Kumr Bhagat, Soumen Roy, Rtn Ranjan Kr Ghosh, Rtn Amarnath Prasad, Subhro Paul, Rtn Harshad Sheth, Rtn Anit Kr Gupta, Rtn Anita Majilya, Rtn Partha Sarkar, Rtn Jagdish Patel, Rtn Shyamal Kr Ganguli, Rtn Sekhar Mukherjee, Rtn Amit Bhutoria, Rtn Dr Kanchan Kanti Garai, Rtn Indra Nath Sen, Rtn Dr Devajit Daw, Rtn Pranab Kr Guha and present Rtn Amit Kr Sharma to be followed by Rtn Dr Manoj Mukherjee for the year 2025- 26. Our club’s first Matching Grant Project was for providing Physiotherapy equipment to Swayambhar – a centre for rehabilitation of mentally & physically challenged children. Our matching partner was RC Riverside, California. USA. Our club’s second Matching Grant Project was Pay & Use Toilet which was built and handed over to Burdwan Municipality near DL&LRO, Office, Rajbati, Burdwan. Our matching partner was RC Rochester, UK. Our Clubs’s first Major Doner is Rtn Partha Sarkar. In the year 2022-23 our Club became 100% Paul Haris Club for all members contribution towards TRF. The following members served as Assistant Governors from our Club: Rtn Randhir Singh Bhutoria, Rtn Ajit Kr Bhagat, Rtn Anit Kr Gupta, Rtn Partha Sarkar, our ex-member Rtn Sukhminder Singh is our present DG. Our Signature project is the All-India Quiz Competition among the school students on Nature & Environment organised by SAEVUS, Mumbai. Apart from these we have done several projects to improve the lives of people in and around Burdwan town like providing clean & safe drinking water facilities to several schools in Burdwan, providing Bench – Tables to the school students, renovating the school facia, water filter with cold water facility in educational institution. Computer to schools, blood donation camps, free health check up camps, we also celebrated World Hearing Day by creating awareness at the heart of the city against unnecessary using of horns – a project idea concept of our President Elect Rtn Dr Manoj Mukherjee. Toilet facilities in schools, providing study materials to the school students, promoting Wash in Schools, thereby converting the school into a Happy School. Mass Tree Plantation, providing vocational excellence awards, Career Counselling for students, sponsoring a candidate for Peace Scholar study abroad, Mother & Child awareness program, each one teach one. We also have few RCCs who are providing service to the village people in association with our club. We also had Interact & Rotaract Club sponsored by our club in the past. We also believe in Women Empowerment; we involve our lady members and our spouse in our projects which creates everlasting bond among the family members. The feather in our crown was our club’s own meeting venue which was possible with the generous contributions from all our club members and under the leadership of our IPP Rtn Pranab Guha in the year 2023-24. We are committed to follow the 4 Way Test of Rotary and to serve to serve the society by following Service above Self
